Offered in any year at the discretion of the Institute of Marine and Environmental Law. Higher postgraduate whole year course, although offered as far as possible in the first semester.

Course outline:

History and Sources of the Law of the Sea: Baselines, Territorial Water Zones: Internal Waters; Territorial Sea; Archipelagic Waters.

Non Territorial Water Zones: Contiguous Zone; Continental Shelf; Exclusive Economic Zone; Exclusive Fishing Zone.

Zones Beyond Particular National Jurisdiction: High Seas: International Sea-Bed Area.

Settlement of disputes.

DP Requirements: Satisfactory attendance at and participation in lectures and tutorials.

Examination requirements:

One three-hour written examination in November counts for 100%. A candidate may be permitted to elect to write the examination earlier in June/July/August in which event he/she will not be eligible to write the examination in October/November. The candidate shall inform the Registrar in writing of his/her election not later than 15 March of the year in question.
