  This Act came into force on 1 April 2000 and provides for a new regime of ownership and control in respect of all heritage resources, including wrecks over 60 years old within the "maritime culture zone" of the RSA.

• The SA Maritime Safety Authority Act (SAMSA)
• The Maritime Zones Act
• The Intervention Act
• The Marine Traffic Act
• The Marine Traffic Regulations
• The Shipping Law General Amendment Act
  This Act was passed as Act 23 of 1997 and came into partial effect on 29 August 1997. Commencement of the following sections relating to the Prevention and Combatting of Pollution of the Sea by Oil Act and the Intervention Act has been delayed: secs 27(k), 28, 43(d), 51, 53, 57 and 58.
